4 Electrifying Features of the 2025 Lexus RX PHEV

Powerful ICE and Electric Motors

Drivers can enjoy the thrill of putting a hybridized 304 hp to the pavement with the RX450h+ plug-in hybrid (commonly known as the RX PHEV). The SUV’s primary power source is a 2.5L inline-4 under the hood, pumping out 180 hp and 168 lb-ft of torque. The engine is paired with two electric motors: one in the front generating 179 hp and 199 lb-ft, and the other in the rear producing 53 hp and 89 lb-ft of torque.

All-wheel drive (AWD) and a continuously variable automatic transmission are standard to meet the demands of urban driving. The electronically controlled AWD system, led by Lexus Driving Signature vehicle fundamentals, optimizes torque distribution for different road conditions and driving styles.

Mighty Speed and Towing Capacity

On a straight stretch of road, the RX PHEV channels its power and electric torque output to achieve a 0 to 60 mph time of 6.2 seconds. It completes the quarter-mile run in 14.6 seconds, reaching a top speed of 95 mph. If speed doesn’t interest you (but trailering does), you can still get most tough jobs done with the hybrid powertrain. The SUV can effortlessly tow a 3,500-lb trailer that has brakes or a 1,000-lb trailer without brakes.

Excellent MPGe and Electric Range

The RX PHEV keeps fuel costs low, even while running on its combustion engine; the inline-4 achieves a stellar fuel economy of 33 mpg city, 36 mpg highway, and 35 mpg combined. You can eliminate fuel costs entirely for 35 miles by switching on EV mode, which also brings your average fuel economy up to 83 MPGe. The 14.53-gallon fuel tank and 18.1 kWh Lithium-ion battery give the SUV up to 430 miles of range on highways.

Fast and Universal Charging

To replenish your electric range without firing up the engine, you can connect the SUV’s battery to a 120V outlet at home or a public charging station. The RX PHEV comes with a 6.6 kWh onboard AC charger, and a J1772 (Type 1) socket compatible with any Level 1 or Level 2 charger. If you are in a rush, plugging the SUV into a 240V outlet will charge the battery in just 2.5 hours.
