when the 2019 Ford Ranger hit the lots. It was a big deal because the Ranger had been gone for eight years, and fans were hungry for it.
While 2019 was technically the first year back in North America, here is a veteran’s secret: It wasn’t actually a new truck. This T6 platform had been working hard in Australia and Europe since 2011. Ford didn’t give us a beta version; they gave us a truck that had already been through the wringer globally for nearly a decade.

People were skeptical about a four-cylinder in a truck, but this 2.3L EcoBoost changed minds fast.
Torque is King: It puts out 310 lb-ft of torque, which is more than many V6 competitors. It feels punchy and eager, especially when you’re merging on the highway.
The 10-Speed: This is the same basic transmission architecture found in the F-150 and even the Mustang. It’s designed to keep you in the power band at all times.
